- Started karate with Sensei Pierre Brits in Utrecht during May 1983
- Left for RAU in January 1984 and trained with various instructors as well as Sensei Norman Robinson
- 1985 moved back to Utrecht and trained with Sensei Frank Smith in Newcastle. Started own club in Utrecht.
- Received my Natal colours
- Various training sessions with sensei Rob Ferreire
- Received Shodan on 12 December 1986
- Resumed training with Sensei Pierre Brits after Sensei Smith stopped teaching
- Received Nidan on 10 December 1988
- Continued teaching in Utrecht until moving to Johannesburg in 1993
- Moved to Douglas colliery in 1994 and started training with Sensei Leon van Vollenstee in Witbank
- Received Northern Transvaal colours
- Opened a club in Douglas colliery until moving to Ermelo
- Moved to Witbank in June 1997 and started training with Sensei Riaan van Vollenstee
- Opened a club at St Thomas Aquinas school and later moved it to the Witbank Health & Racquet Club (current premises)
