Karate 2006 World Championships
Bryan Dukas, 4th Dan has been
chosen to represent South Africa in the Kata division at the Karate World
Championships in Finland.
" The event will be held in
the Tampere Ice Stadium from 12 to 15 October 2006. Some 1,000 athletes from
over 100 countries will participate.
The Championships are
expected to attract 15,000-20,000 spectators and considerable international
media interest.
The competitions will be an
action-packed four-day spectacle, from early in the morning to late in the
evening.
There will be 17 competition
categories: four for teams, six for women and seven for men. The
competitions will be complemented by a massive training event for
international referees starting in the week before the championships. Almost
300 referees will participate in the training Organizing the championships
is a joint effort by the World Karate Federation, the Finnish Karate
Federation and the City of Tampere.
This is the first time the
Karate World Championships have been held in the Nordic Countries and they
will be Finland's largest sports event in 2006!
