Mike Dukas Sensei

Marital status: Married to Marion. Three sons, Dylan, Bryan and Warran.
Occupation: Process control Engineer with Dow Plastics.
Karate career:
  • 1973 - South African All Styles Kumite champion Under 70 kg - 1st place.
  • 1976 - Attended a special training seminar in England with Japanese Instructor Sensei Enoeda
  • 1976 - South African All Styles Kumite championships under 70kg - 3rd place.
  • 1976 - Graded to 2nd Dan by Sensei Stan Schmidt.
  • 1978 - South African JKA championships kata - 4th place.
  • 1978 - Graded to 3rd Dan by Sensei Stan Schmidt.
  • 1979 - South African All Styles Kumite championships - 4th place
  • 1981 - Member of the Vaal Province Kumite team that took part in the South African Games held in Cape Town.
  • 1983 - Attended special Instructors training in Japan (Okinawa and Tokyo)
  • 1983 - Participated in Kumite at the All Japan Karate Championships held in Tokyo
  • 1983 - South African All Styles championships - Kumite 3rd place
  • 1987 - South African SKI Championships - Team Unison Kata - 1st place
  • 1988 - Attended special Instructors training in Japan (Tokyo)
  • 1988 - Graded to 4th Dan in Japan by Sensei H Kanazawa.
  • 1989 - South African Shotokan Championships - Team Unison Kata - 2nd place
  • 1991 - South African Shotokan Championships - Team Unison Kata - 1st place
  • 1991 - Coach for the SA National Shotokan team to World Shotokan Karate Championships held in Turkey.
  • 1992 - Graded to 5th Dan in Japan by Sensei H Kasuya.
  • 1992- Coach for the SA National Shotokan team to World Shotokan Karate Championships held in Japan
  • 1993 - Coach for the JKA National Team to the World JKA Championships held in Japan.
  • 1995 - Attended special Instructors training in France with Japanese Instructors.
  • 1995 - Coach for the JKA National Team to the World JKA Championships held in Greece.
  • 1998 - Coach for the JKA National Team to the World JKA Championships held in Switzerland.
  • 1999 - Attended special Instructors training in Japan (Tokyo)
  • 1999 - Graded to 6th Dan in Japan by Sensei Asai.
  • 2000- Coach for National KWF Team to World KWF Championships held in Wales
  • 2000- National Selector for South African All Styles Karate Body (KASA).
Other interests:
Sensei Mike also plays golf (he has a handicap of 9!). He does hiking and game watching whenever possible.
